The artistic works of Fides Becker make her truly unique in the contemporary art scene. Her paintings satirize the image of women as they go about their daily routines in public and private. Everyday actions take on the appearance of sacred rituals in a combination of household chores and sex appeal. Woven into a tapestry of ornaments and flourishing vegetation, everyday items - food products, cleaning supplies, manufactured household appliances - take on a larger-than-life, radically symbolic revaluation. Becker paints these in large-format pictures in which washcloths or fur remnants could be applied similar to a combined painting. The large paintings and smaller watercolors are masterfully created. In precisely detailed arrangements, in which she is the model, Becker comments on the allocation of sexual roles. In idyllic isolation, she mutates herself into ornament

The depiction of feministic culture, the narcissistic portrayal of her own body and poaching in the history of painting is more masterfully interpreted by Becker than by any other painter in her generation. Becker consents to comparisons with Cindy Sherman or Pipilotti Rist, but rigorously rejects any comparison with male painters.

The technical brilliance of her work, which is characterized by filigree, intellectual concepts as opposed to wild styles, can be compared to the works of Sigmar Polke.

Presented in the distinctive wood-paneled rooms of the sixties-style OSRAM Haus GALLERY, Fides Becker's work takes on a uniqueness of form and content.
