OSRAM Haus Galerie aktueller Kunst is honored to present a special exhibition of the photo series "�ber das H�ren und das Verstehen" (About Hearing and Understanding) arranged by the Munich photographer for the Lichterkette e.V. The 28 photos in the series represent a take-off of "Fl�sterpost," a whispering game typically played by German children. What are the people in the photographs whispering to each other? Are they playing "pass it on?" Are they talking about themselves? Do they trust each other? Are they revealing secrets? Herlinde Koelbl's photographs brilliantly illustrate how a chain of understanding develops when people are willing to listen to each other.
Her photographs show 29 people from age 5 to 71 whispering to each other, eavesdropping, giggling, joking, and contemplating. People from 18 different countries on five continents are seen listening and understanding in 13 languages. The accompanying text is from the author Tilman Spengler.
Herlinde Koelbl created the series of photographs as a gift to Lichterkette e.V. This charitable organization has been fostering the integration of foreign citizens, particularly children and adolescents, for over 12 years. Language is the key to integration and Lichterkette focuses on projects that promote knowledge of the German language.
The funds raised from selling the photographs will be used to provide immigrants, refugees, and young people from foreign countries an opportunity to learn German. The OSRAM Haus Galerie aktueller Kunst is proud to present this exhibition as a means of supporting Lichterkette e.V. efforts.
